Modern Day Diaper Bags

Some friends of ours are pregnant! YAY!  We are so excited for them to have their little kiddo.  Momma recently confided that she just can’t tote a patterned diaper bag.  Who can blame her?  Yuck!   I think this is an excellent excuse to invest in a really nice bag, something you wouldn’t be embarrassed to be seen with, if by chance you were caught with bag, sans kiddo.  Also, I think it’s important to take Pappa into consideration, because he will probably be carrying the bag too.  Here are a few bags I’ve collected that would make gorgeous diaper bags.  Please leave a comment on which bag you like best.

1. I’ve had my eye on this bag from 7 For All Mankind for a while and it just went on sale!

2. This one’s Graeme’s favorite, a masculine choice by 7 For All Mankind again.

3. Local bag by Entermodal, just lovely.

4. This one is from  Valhallabrooklyn, available in their etsy shop.  Everything they make is mouth watering.

5. This one’s my personal favorite, and the most expensive of the bunch.  It’s the Herman Mail Bag, by Marc Marmel.

Petticoat Bag

Remember during the civil war when ladies used to sneak stuff to their soldiers by hiding it under their petticoat? Me neither. But, it’s true they would hide a little cart with wheels under their big dress and load it full of things for the soldiers.

If you’ve got something you’d like to smuggle, or if you just want to be able to find your cell phone before it goes to voice mail, this is the bag for you. It has a secret pocket hidden under the ruffle. Not to mention it’s large enough for a number of tasks. For example, take it to the market, just put your wallet and keys in the outside pocket and you can tote home a whole weeks worth of cupcakes, or spinach. You can use it for yoga, or the gym, it’s big enough for everything you will need for any outing, even overnight. It’s also very sturdy, the straps are reinforced so you can carry all your school books, and your dirty gym clothes, and still have room to hide a chocolate bar in the secret pocket.

We have a bunch of them in the store.take a look

Umm… I don’t get it.

That whole, “I’m not a plastic bag” thing went right over my head. I kept looking at the pictures of that bag, and not understanding it. Maybe it’s because here in Portland we bring our own bags, my trunk overflows with cloth and paper bags waiting to be used again. So I guess I’m the “Smug Twat”. This bag, I get it! I also love that it’s not made in China. It’s made by hand in the UK.

However, there is a good use for plastic bags. I just ordered this for a friend from Happy Family on Etsy. I love the classic design!
